  • Senegal has a tropical climate and enjoys pleasant temperatures throughout the year. There are two main seasons those are the rainy seasons (May - November) and the dry season (December - April). The dry season is generally the best time to travel to Senegal, especially if you're planning a trip to the country's magnificent beaches. However, the rainy season offers spectacular birding in the more remote regions, complemented by the beautifully lush scenery.
  • Senegal is known for being a safe country and the locals are friendly, and robberies and violent crime against tourists are pretty uncommon. Using good mosquito repellent, carrying tissues (as toilet paper can be scarce in public spots), and wearing sun block are all essential. The official language of Senegal is French. Wolof is the native language of some Senegalese people, but you will find that almost everyone speaks it. Knowing the basic Wolof greetings and phrases will go a long way in getting you better service and prices.
  • Automatic teller machines are rare in Senegal. Internet speed in Senegal is on average 1.8 Mbps. WiFi coverage in Senegal is very low. It's quite hard to find one. Senegal is easily accessible by bus, trains, car, motorcycle and the quickest way of getting around the country is by sept-place taxi – battered Peugeots that negotiate even the most ragged routes. Major international airlines such as Air France, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines operate in Senegal. There are no direct flights to Senegal from India. Several connecting flights of Air India, Jet Airways, Air France, Vistara, etc. link Indian cities to Dakar with a major layover at Istanbul, and Nairobi.
  • What to see in Senegal?

  • Dakar, the capital of Senegal is a vibrant city famous for its lively markets and rich musical culture. Elsewhere, Senegal boasts beautiful colonial architecture, secluded beaches blessed with world-famous surf breakers and remote riverine deltas teeming with wildlife. Senegal is a gorgeous place where you can soak up the sun on the beautiful beaches of Salty or watch the boats dock in the fishing town of M’Bour. The Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary is a heaven for birdwatchers and you will love the lagoon beach set among mangroves in Somone. Once you get tired of watching countless pelicans swoop in and out of the water, chill out at the Paradise Rasta Bar on the beach.
  • There are many markets in Dakar named Marche Sandaga where you can find great deals on traditional African house wares, fabric, unique visual art forms like glass and sand paintings and even fruits and snacks there. The Fathala Reserve is the ideal place for a mini-safari. Families should take a morning safari to see giraffes, zebras, rhinos and crocodiles roam the savannah at the Bandia Nature Reserve. A visit to Île de Gorée, an island that’s home to the Maison des Esclaves, a memorial to the trans-Atlantic slave trade is a sombre but important experience and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
