Jordan Travel guide

Contributing a tiny percentage of land in the middle-eastern region, Jordan is a country that exhibits what a traveller would term as paradise. Don’t be fooled with its small area, in Jordan you can experience movie-like ancient monuments, vast landscapes and a range of flora and fauna nestled within nature reserves. Read more

  • Owing to its location, most of Jordan sees scorching temperatures, especially in the areas characterised as deserts. The best time to visit Jordan can be split into three categories; winter (January and February) month’s low and cold temperatures, spring (March) is when the country is the liveliest, and lastly the warm climate between September and November during with the marine life is the most visible. Hence, these are the best months to travel to Jordan.
  • The people in Jordan are some of the friendliest you will find. Whether you are with your friends and family or backpacking alone, Jordan is by far the safest places to travel. If you are paranoid, hire a local guide or escort. Even if you can’t speak Arabic, do not worry as many locals are bi-lingual and can easily communicate or at least understand English. Spanish, German, Italian and French are also spoken but by a minority of the population.
  • Many renowned airlines fly to Amman from various Indian cities with not one stop-over. Yes! With Air Arabia, Gulf Air, Oman Air and Etihad Airways, you can directly land in Jordan. These airlines offer consistent flights, so booking as per your schedule shouldn’t be an issue. Once you arrive in the country, either hire a taxi or hop on a coach to get going, the International Airports are well-equipped with transport facilities.
  • What to see in Jordan?

  • In Jordan’s capital Amman, visit the Citadel, a famous archaeological site with dating history situated amidst a vast desert region. Take a seat at the Roman Amphitheatre, where you can also learn about the country’s history at the Museums in the vicinity.
  • In Madaba, visit St.George’s Church. Its artistic interior and long ceilings are grandeur, but it is not its architecture that attracts tourists. It hosts the oldest cartographic description of Jerusalem, popularly known as the Madaba Map.
  • If you aren’t afraid of heights, make way to Mount Nebo and enjoy panoramic views of the country. From here, you can also witness the Dead Sea as well as the Valleys of Jordan. Consider yourself fit? If yes, you can even enjoy a guided trek here.
  • You can’t miss out on Petra if you are in Jordan. I would definitely term it as a ‘Kingdom of Dreams’. Head over to the Southwestern region of Jordan. This rock-cut valley is going to be the highlight your visit. Enjoy a camel ride or have a stroll by yourself.
  • In the North-West regions of Jordan, visit the Dibeen Forest. It is a Natural Reserve with a wide range of species to learn about. Tourists can hike the trails and even lodge overnight at hotels built nearby.
  • It is food that most of us crave on every vacation, where calories are an exception. Taste the local cuisine of Jordan. Shawarma, falafel, Maqluba, Mansaf and Bedouin tea are a must-try.
  • Trade is highly prevalent in Jordan. If you wish to buy souvenirs, make sure to visit local downtown markets instead of air-conditioned malls as these are full of life, love and you can also enjoy the live music coming from the streets. Handicrafts, spices, hookah accessories and clothes are sold in abundance.
