  • add Do Indian citizens require a Visa to travel to Bhutan?

    No, Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Bhutan for tourism purpose. Indians travelling by air will be issued a free Entry Permit upon arrival into Bhutan.
    Indian nationals who wish to drive their cars to Bhutan are required to obtain “Route Permit” from the Road Safety and Transport Authority office in Bhutan after obtaining the entry permit from the Department of Immigration.

  • add How long is the Bhutan Entry Permit valid for?

    It will be valid for 7 days, which can be expandable in Thimphu for another 7 days up to a maximum of 30 days.

  • add Is my permit valid for the whole of Bhutan?

    Bhutan entry permit is valid only for Thimphu and Paro only. The rest of Bhutan is considered a restricted area, and tourists need a "Restricted-Area Permit" to enter the same.
    What are the different types of Permits for travel to Bhutan?
    Entry Permit: This permit is issued on arrival when you travel to Bhutan by flight. The entry point is either in Paro airport (when travelling by flight) or in Phuentsholing Bhutan (when travelling overland either from Bagdogra or NJP). The Entry Permit is also a valid document to visit Thimphu and Paro.
    Route Permit: If you travel to Bhutan by road, you need to have a Route Permit. With a Route Permit, you can visit places like Punakha, Wangdue, Bumthang, etc) beyond Paro and Thimphu.

    Yes. Indian travellers wishing to visit Bhutan need to carry either their passport, having a validity of minimum 6 months or a voter identity card, issued by Election Commission of India. For Children travelers it is advisable to carry Birth Certificate or Academic School ID Card.

    The Royal Bhutanese Embassy in New Delhi does not issue any visa or entry permit. Bhutanese visas are only issued by the Department of Immigration, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs in Bhutan.

    Indians are not liable to face a rejection. However, the above said documents are necessary to enter the country. Failure to produce any of the documents may result rejection of the Entry permit, thereby barring you from entering the country. The final decision to grant an entry permit is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officials at Bhutan airport.
