Travelling With A Pet? These Are The Things You Should Know

Are you planning a holiday? Are you travelling with a pet? If yes, it can be amazing, as you no longer have to fear how they are staying without you. But airplanes and trains were not made with pets in mind, so the result is unpredictable. Depending on how equipped you are, you could have a great journey or a dreadful one. Here are some of the things you must keep in mind before booking your air ticket while traveling with pets.

1. Ensure They Are Healthy Enough To Fly

Ensure They Are Healthy Enough To Fly

This one is obvious, but a proper assessment of your pet’s current health condition is the most important step as a pet owner you can take before booking your air ticket and taking them on a plane. Hence, keeping this point in mind becomes necessary when you are travelling with a pet.

2. Practice In Advance For Them To Fly

Buy a carrier or kennel (if you are keeping them in cargo) and train your pet in getting in and out, as well as spending time inside of it. This will help you to get them accustomed.

3. Book A Pet-Friendly Hotel

If you are travelling with a pet and staying in a hotel with your pet, it’s essential to book a room with a pet-friendly hotel. Not all hotels permit animals and those that do usually charge extra per night.

4. Carry The First-Aid Kit

No matter what mode of transport you’re using to travel, there are a few safety measures you can take to ensure your pet is always safe. Carry alcohol wipes, hydrogen peroxide, gauze pads, adhesive tape, bandages, styptic powder, ice pack, disposable gloves, towels, saline solution, tweezers, and scissors with you. You should also look for emergency veterinarian clinics closest to your hotel before booking your air ticket.

5. Airlines To Choose

Choose a proper airline when travelling with a pet

If you book air tickets with Air India, Spice Jet, Jet Airways, and Vistara, these airlines do allow pets on board, while Air Costa and Indigo only permit animals that are required for people with incapacities. Animals that are below 8 weeks old, and in some cases 12, are not allowed to fly. The same goes for pregnant animals and females as well.

6. If In Doubt, Keep Them At Home

If in doubt, keep your pets at home

As much as you’d like to carry your furry ones at your side at all times, travel can be too risky for some animals. If your pet is mainly nervous, vulnerable to changes in temperature, or needs training, it’s perhaps best for you to leave them at home.
