Singapore Transit Visa for Indians

A Transit Visa allows you to pass through Singapore on your way to another country. Travelers at Singapore Changi Airport who are in transit and are not seeking entry into Singapore; do not need to apply for a Singapore Transit Visa if they remain in the transit area and do not cross immigration.

The requirements also depend upon the airline by which you will be travelling. All airlines have different visa rules and regulations. It is advisable to check with the respective airline if you are required to cross immigration in order to change terminals or to formally check-in again before continuing with the subsequent leg of their journey. Especially for travel on Low Cost Carrier (LCC) or connecting to a LCC as they may need to seek immigration clearance and obtain their onward boarding passes at the respective Departure Check-in Hall. In such a situation, visitors will be required to seek immigration clearance and satisfy the prevailing entry requirements, which include possessing an entry visa, where applicable. Visitors are advised to find out the transfer details from their airline before embarking on their journeys. If the airline confirms that a traveler is able to obtain his / her onward boarding pass for connecting flight out of Changi Airport without going through immigration clearance, he / she may remain within the Changi Airport transit area until it is time for his / her next connecting flight.

96-hour visa free transit facility Singapore Visa (VFTF)

Indians are eligible for a visa free transit facility. If you are in transit to or from any third country via Singapore, you may be eligible for the 96-hour VFTF if you meet these requirements:

  • You may enter Singapore by any mode of transport but depart only via air or sea;
  • You hold a valid passport with minimum 6 months’ validity from the return date;
  • One must have a valid onward air / ferry / cruise ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours; and
  • You must have a valid visa*/long-term pass (with a validity of at least 1 month from the date of entry into Singapore under the VFTF) issued by any of the following countries; namely Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America
  • Must have sufficient funds for the duration of stay in Singapore;
  • You are leaving Singapore within 96-hours of arrival;
  • You have dully filled the Singapore disembarkation card.

*A visa is considered valid so long as it is good for entry into one of the eight countries listed above. Travellers with Single Journey Visas (SJV) may still be granted VFTF on the return leg of their journey (i.e. after the SJV is used and no longer valid), but you must:

  • Travel directly from the country that issued the SJV, en route through Singapore, back to your home country.
  • Not have returned to your home country since you last used the SJV.

Note: Extension of stay for transit travellers under VFTF is strictly not allowed.

Getting a transit Visa is completely at the sole discretion of the Immigration officer. Off lately we have received feedback from our customers that, at times the Immigration officials may deny the transit visa (VFTF) or the check-in staff are not aware of this VTFT and delay passengers or even prevent them from boarding the flight. We are not able to either confirm or deny how an individual check-in officer will act. Therefore, to avoid any unnecessary issues or last-minute hiccups and to be on the safe side, you are strongly advised to apply for a Singapore visa for Indians well in advance.
