WHAT IS QUARANTINE?

 

Quarantine is used to keep somebody away (who might have been exposed to COVID-19) from others. Quarantine helps prevent the spread of disease that can arise before a person even knows they are sick or if they are infested with the virus without sensing any symptoms. Individuals in quarantine should stay home, isolate themselves, track their health, and follow instructions from their state or local health department.

 

WHO NEEDS TO QUARANTINE?

 

  • Individuals who have come in contact with somebody who has COVID-19. 
  • Individuals who have tested positive within the past 3 months and improved do not have to quarantine or get tested again (as long as they do not develop any new symptoms).
  • Individuals who have developed symptoms once again within 3 months must get tested again if there is no other reason recognized for their symptoms.
  • Individuals who have been in close contact with somebody who has COVID-19 are not required to quarantine if they have been vaccinated against the disease and show no symptoms.

 

WHAT COUNTS AS CLOSE CONTACT?

 

  • You were in contact within 6 feet of somebody who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more
  • You provided care at home to somebody who is sick with COVID-19
  • You had straight physical contact with the person 
  • You shared drinking or eating vessels
  • They coughed, sneezed, or someway got respiratory droplets on you

 

STEPS TO TAKE

 

  • Stay home for 14 days post your last contact with an individual who has COVID-19.
  • Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other symptoms of COVID-19
  • Stay away from people especially who are at higher risk for getting very ill from COVID-19

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BEING HOME QUARANTINED

 

The home quarantined person must: 

  • Stay in a well-ventilated room which has an attached toilet. 
  • If another family member has to stay in the same room, it’s sensible to maintain a distance of at least 1 meter between the two.
  • Needs to stay away from old people, expectant women, children, and individuals with higher risk. 
  • Restrict his movement within the house. 
  • Under no circumstances he should attend any social gathering.

 

HE SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW THESE PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES AT ALL TIMES: 

• Wash hand or use a hand sanitizer

• Avoid sharing household items

• Wear a surgical mask all the time.

  • Change your mask in every 6-8 hours.
  • Disposable masks should never be reused. 
  • If symptoms appear he/she should directly inform the nearest health center 

 

GUIDELINES FOR THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF INDIVIDUALS BEING HOME QUARANTINED

 

  • Only one family member should take care of the such person

• Use disposable gloves when cleaning the surfaces

• Wash hands thoroughly after removing gloves •

  • Visitors should not be allowed •
  • In case if the person being quarantined becomes symptomatic, then all his close contacts will be home quarantined (for 14 days) 

 

How to Protect Yourself & Others

 

WEAR A MASK

  • Everybody who is 2 years and older should wear masks in public.
  • Masks must be worn in addition to staying at least 6 feet apart, especially around people who don’t stay with you.
  • If somebody in your household is infected, people in the household must wear a mask to avoid further spread.
  • Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands before putting on your mask.
  • Wear your mask by covering your nose and mouth.

 

  • If you have to repeatedly adjust your mask, you need to find a different mask type.
  • Please make sure you can breathe easily.

 

Effective from February 2, 2021, masks are compulsory on buses, trains, planes, and other forms of public transportation.​

 

You should stay 6 feet away from individuals who are

  • Inside your home: Evade close contact with people who are sick.
  • Outside your home: Maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and people who don’t live with you.

GET VACCINATED

  • Official COVID-19 vaccines can help you protect yourself from COVID-19.
  • You must get the vaccination when it is available to you.

AVOID CROWDS AND 

  • Being in crowds like in bars, gyms, restaurants, puts you at higher risk for COVID-19.
  • Evade indoor spaces that do not have fresh air.
  • If indoors, bring in fresh air by opening the windows.

 

WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place.
  • If soap and water is not accessible, use a hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes, and mouth with grubby hands.

 

CLEAN AND DISINFECT

  • Clean tables, handles, keyboards, light switches, desks, phones, toilets, sinks etc. whenever required.
  • If you know someone is sick, disinfect immediately

 

MONITOR YOUR HEALTH DAILY

  • Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other symptoms of COVID-19.
    • Especially important if you are going to office or workplace.
  • Check your temperature if symptoms develop.

 

TIPS FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING WHEN TRAVELING

When you are going out in public, it is extremely important to wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet away from people. Consider the following tips for practicing social distancing when you are planning to go out. 

 

  • Know Before You Go: Before stepping out, know and follow the regulation from local public health authorities where you live.
  • Prepare for Transport: Consider social distancing choices to travel safely when running errands or traveling to and from work, 
  • Limit Contact: Only visit shops selling household necessities only when you need to and wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet away from others who are not from your house.
  • Select Safe Social Activities: You can stay socially connected with friends and family who don’t live with you by calling, using video chat, or staying connected via social media. If you have to meet others in person, stay at least 6 feet from them.
  • Keep Distance at Gatherings: It is better to avoid crowded places where it may be difficult to stay 6 feet away from others who are not from your household. 
  • Stay Distanced While Being Active: Consider going for a walk, or a run in your neighborhood or in another safe location where you can maintain at least 6 feet of distance between other walkers and cyclists.
