When To Visit Azerbaijan?

The greatest time to visit Azerbaijan is in the autumn, from late August to October, when the temperature (13 - 26°C) is moderate in the lowlands and moderate in the mountains, making it the ideal season to enjoy the country's natural beauty.

Due to the country's semi-desert geography, the mid-summer months of June to early August may be rather hot in the lowland, with temperatures hovering around 30 - 35°C.

How To Get To Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijan has a well-established link with Istanbul and Ankara, so flying with Turkish Airlines from virtually everywhere in the globe is the easiest method to go to Azerbaijan. You can also fly into Turkey on other airlines and into Azerbaijan on low-cost carriers like Pegasus Airlines.

There are no direct flights from the United States to Baku, but you can fly to Istanbul or Ankara on Turkish Airlines and then transfer to Baku.

Within Europe, direct flights should be available from the UK via Azerbaijan Airlines, Paris via Air France, and Frankfurt via Lufthansa.

There are no direct flights from Asia to Baku, however Turkish Airlines connects the region effectively enough that you can fly to Baku through Istanbul or Ankara. Other Middle Eastern airlines, such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Etihad Airways, are also excellent choices.

How To Get From Tbilisi, Georgia To Baku, Azerbaijan?

If you're already in the Caucasus, you can take an overnight train from Tbilisi, Georgia to Baku. But it's a lengthy journey, spanning roughly 12 hours on a train that's seen better days.

The train departs Tbilisi every day at 8:35 p.m. and arrives in Baku at 9:00 a.m. the next day. You won't be passing through immigration until after 11 p.m., so don't get warm and ready for the night until then.

A 3rd class sleeper train ticket should cost roughly 15 USD (24 AZN) (open plan). Instead, choose a 2nd or 1st class sleeper seat if you want a 4 person/2 person private compartment.

How To Get From Baku Airport To The City Center?

The Airport Express bus runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the airport to Baku Central Station and vice versa. From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Airport Express runs every 30 minutes. It runs every 40 minutes from 7 to 9 p.m., then every hour from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

To board the bus, you'll need the BakuCard electronic payment, which may be obtained from a machine near the bus stop on the left-hand side of the Terminal Exit in front of the airport.

There are two options available from the machine: a 2-times paper card for the Airport Express and a plastic card that can be topped up and used on city buses/metros/museums, among other things.

The plastic card will cost 2 AZN, and you can then load it with money.

After you receive the card, take it to the bus and touch it on the machine to check how much money has been withdrawn from your card as well as the remaining amount.

The Airport Express should take you to the 28 May bus stop immediately in front of Baku Central Station in about 45 minutes; from there, you can walk or take a taxi, preferably using Uber or Bolt.

How To Get Around Azerbaijan?

There are a variety of ways to get about Azerbaijan, and we'll use them all on this trip. The following are the most prevalent modes of transportation in Azerbaijan:

On use Bolt in Azerbaijan, grab a local sim card at the airport and download Bolt to your phone. Then type in your destination, request a vehicle, and you're off.

Your only choice for getting to isolated regions like Khinaliq or surrounding Nakhchivan is to hire a cab driver, which can cost anywhere between 60 and 90 AZN each day depending on the distance. These taxi-for-hires can be simply arranged through your lodging.
